The Future of US Space rests on hybrid systems.

Imagie a peek 10 years into the future. Though it is not a colony, the moon has been a part of many major space wars. Telescopes that put the James Webb telescope to shame are lodged on the moon surface, with the potential to look far into the past of the universe. A sort of anti-asteroid defence system is in place close to the Earth, screening for potential risky rocks that could pose a threat to the world.

On the other hand, Elon Musk’s space launches which rely on the very reusuable Falcon have become such a regularity that discussions about every individual launch are hardly newsworthy. Over ten thousand satellites owned by different companies are placed in low orbit around the Earth, each with their dedicated purpose to improve human life. This is the present, so how does it match up to 2020.

This future, or something very similar to it, will come to pass if governments around the world, led by the U.S., enact policies and promote a pro-growth, market-driven space economy. Major policies that favor commercialization of space travels is vital for any viable strategy at the national level. These policies will fuel the need to fulfil the 2029 dream.

As a matter of fact, the early days of the space age are quite similar to the 20th century’s acceleration of globalization powered by the surge in aviation and commercial aircrafts . Aviation Benefits Beyond Borders reports that today, this contributes to an extra $2.7 trillion of annual global economic benefit, with 10.4 million direct jobs and continued high growth projected for at least the next 20 years. Additionally, CNBC reports that $2.7 trillion is precisely where some of the more optimistic forecasters like Merrill Lynch see the space economy in the next 30 years.

The main details are not laid down yet regarding hybrid space architectures or their mode of operation, although it is quite obvious why they are needed. With equality in space abilities, the government should not try to resist this, but instead obtain innovations from other companies. By including small commercial space companies, we can combine efforts to alleviate any vulnerabilities and expand humanity’s reign on the space age,

Hybrid space architectures will enable the government to work faster and better by leveraging developed tech, which will free up time and resources. Some costly endeavours taken by companies can be mitigated, boosting the economy and securing a firm hold.
